Canyon Country Animals
Birds: Jays
In canyon country we get to see a large variety of jays, including Blue Jays, Gray Jays, Steller's Jays, Western Scrub Jays, Pinyon Jays, and Clark's Nutcracker. They can be seen solo, or in groups, like the Pinyon Jays that sweep down through the pinyon-juniper forests chattering away like a group of roughians taking control of a neighborhood. They are always fascinating and entertaining and will swipe small unattended items from a camp site.

Notes
- The main photo on this page was taken in the campground in Red Canyon Recreation Area in Utah by Mirek Stehno in 2004.
- We see a variety of jays throughout the Intermountain West and canyon country. Sometimes they travel in large groups stirring up a racket as they fly from tree to tree. But they are striking and interesting birds.
