Birds: Pelican
There are two basic species of Pelican in the west, the American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) and the Brown Pelican (Pelicanus occidentalis). The Brown Pelican is mostly along the coast, while the American White Pelican can be see along many inland waterways.

- We have seen them at several place in canyon country, including Walker Lake near Hawthorne, Nevada and other locations in Utah. We have also seen pelicans in Flaming Gorge Reservoir, along the coast in Washington, flying high above the Snake River in southern Idaho, and along several other waterways.
