Canyon Country Animals
Birds: Quail
The two most common types of Quail in canyon country are the California Quail (Callipepla californica) and the Gambel's Quail (Callipepla gambelii). Although we don't see them often in the wild, we do have many small flocks roaming our Utah suburbs and farmlands.

Notes
- The main photo on this page was taken in our front yard in Sandy, Utah. This mating pair has wandered around our neighborhood for a couple of years now. The first year they were around we saw them later in the season with their little brood of young ones.
- In 2007 there seems to be a population boom among our local quail. Large flocks of twenty or more birds seem to be everywhere. There is obviously a lack of predators and an abundance of food.
