Canyon Country Animals
Birds: Turkey Vulture
The Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) is commonly known as a "buzzard." This bird ranges throughout the United States and into southern Canada and south into South America. It gets its name from the red skin on its head and dark body feathers that resemble a turkey.

Notes
- Turkey Vultures can be seen all over in the skies above canyon country. They are often in groups, taking advantage of the thermal updrafts to loft them high above the countryside. They are often mistaken for eagles, but the "fingers" along the tips of their wings give them away, as well as their bald, featherless pink head, when you can see them up close.
