 Woodpecker
A Hairy Woodpecker near White Pine Lake, Wasatch Mountains, Utah.

There are many kinds of Woodpeckers in canyon country. They can be seen or heard in almost any forested area. They are distinctive in their black, white, and often red feathers, and they stand out from most other birds in that they are seen on the sides of trees rather than perched upon branches. See also Northern Flicker.
