Pupfish

Pupfish in King's Pool, Ash Meadow National Wildlife Refuge, Nevada.Scientific Name: Cyprinodon macularius

Pupfish are a tiny, endangered species that are endemic in the Death Valley, Amargosa Valley, Ash Meadows and a few locations in southern Arizona. There are several sub-species with only a few hundred individuals per colony. Usually between one and two inches in length, with a distinct blue coloration, they are difficult to photograph with the typical "tourist" camera. See also Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and Death Valley National Park for information on pool locations.
