Terminology

This table provides an approximate range of temperatures, precipitation, and cloud cover for this geographic area. Actual daily figures will vary, depending upon current climate conditions. This information was borrowed from The Complete Guide to America's National Parks (1990-1991 Edition) and other sources.

  • This is a fairly arid region, lying in the rain shadow of the mountains to the west.
  • Winters are quite cold, though below-zero temperatures are not common.
  • On clear, still nights, cold air drainage keeps the valley bottoms significantly colder than the adjoining high elevation areas.
  • See Canyon Country Weather for more information.
